Students are reading less in school: Down on a broad front

Students read just over an hour less per week at school than in 2001. Over a school year, a fourth-grade student reads about 40 fewer hours, a new study from the Swedish National Agency for Education shows. “This is worrying, as reading is central to our ability to absorb knowledge in other subjects,” says Sepideh Westerberg, education advisor at the Swedish National Agency for Education.
