When the team lineups were announced before the Stockholm derby, Jonathan Stålberg was listed as the starting goalkeeper for AIK. But when the puck was dropped, it was Victor Brattström who stood between the posts. Something that sparked great anger in the Djurgården camp.
AIK's coach Roger Melin had no idea about the mistake when he was asked.
No … Who said that? I know nothing about it. It was nothing we had announced anyway, he says in TV4 Play.
The veteran opened the goal account
The mistake could have resulted in a penalty for AIK, but Djurgården's coach Robert Kimby pointed it out to the referees too late. The rule says that the protest must be made at the first stoppage of play, and the protest came later than that.
Therefore, AIK avoided playing shorthanded, and a short while later they got to play powerplay in a successful way when Daniel Muzito Bagenda gave "Gnaget" the lead.
Djurgården did what they could to get an equalizer, but the decision to let Brattström guard the net would prove to be completely right. The 27-year-old stood up to Djurgården's offense for a long time, and in the beginning of the third period, AIK could instead extend their lead to 2–0 through Jordy Bellerive.
"Make it easy for me"
It's really fun. I get fantastic help from the guys too. They make it easy for me. But it's fun to be back and be in the heat of the action, that's what I love, says Brattström in TV4 Play.
In the end, Linus Klasen would get past Brattström, but it wasn't enough.
AIK won the third Stockholm derby of the season with 4–1 after a final goal from Eric Norin.
