One of Brazil's most successful clubs, Corinthians, has voted out its chairman Anthony Melo. This is because Melo is charged with criminal conspiracy, theft and money laundering.

It was during Corinthians' annual meeting that it was voted to dismiss Melo, who was already suspended by the club. With 1,413 votes against 620, it was clear that Melo would be forced out.

According to Brazilian media, documents have shown that Melo set up a network of fake companies to redirect money belonging to Corinthians. The prosecutors have demanded that Melo and other suspects in the case repay around 70 million kronor to the club.

Corinthians have won the Brazilian league seven times, and are currently twelfth in the table.
