World number seven Möregårdh had an easy time against 20th-ranked An Jaen-hyun. The Swede won with 4–1 in sets against the South Korean: 11–8, 11–9, 11–8, 8–11, 11–4.
After three straight set wins for Möregårdh, An created some tension in the fourth set. He took the lead to 4–1, and then won the set with 11–8. But in the fifth and final set, Möregårdh shifted into high gear and won with 11–4.
I must say that I had a bit of luck during the match. When An started to gain momentum, I got some lucky points, but that's how it is. I think I have developed and play faster table tennis and that's what I work on every day. And that's what I did today, very well, says Möregårdh in the interview after the match.
In the semifinal, world number two Wang Chuqin awaits. Möregårdh pulled off an upset against the Chinese player in the Olympic Games round of 16 in 2024, but lost to Wang in the World Championship semifinal earlier this year.
I will try to find a good tactic against him. It's very tough, he is the best player in the world right now with a margin, so I will do my best and hopefully I will deliver a good match against him, says Möregårdh.
