Cernjul ran at a time of 9.08,87.
It was a late evening yesterday, so I came here today with zero expectations and just wanted to go out and drive and fight for the medals, and I really did. I'm so, so happy about the two medals, I couldn't wish for more this weekend. It feels completely incredible and hard to take in, actually, says Cernjul.
Innes Fitzgerald, Great Britain, won overwhelmingly at a time of 8.46,39, which meant a new championship record.
Norwegian Wilma Bekkemoen Torbiörnsson took the bronze with a time of 9.10,70.
Sweden has now taken five medals at the European Championship under U20: Cernjul's two silvers, Karl Ottfalk's silver and bronze in the 5,000 meters and 3,000 meters, respectively, and Axel Rogö's gold in pole vault.
