Daniel Ricciardo has more or less been a constant in the Formula 1 circus since his debut in 2011.
But now the Australian may have driven his last F1 race. On Thursday, his current team, Racing Bulls, announced that he is leaving the team with immediate effect. This despite six remaining events.
"Daniel has been a true gentleman both on and off the track, and never without a smile. He will be missed, but he will always have a special place in the Red Bull family", the team writes on X.
The team's reserve, Liam Lawson, will therefore take his place during the remaining racing weekends.
Thus, it is unclear whether Ricciardo will be part of next season's driver lineup in Formula 1.
All teams, except Stake F1 and now also Racing Bulls, have already presented their drivers for next season. Stake has so far only confirmed Nico Hulkenberg, who will retain his place next season.
Ricciardo is in 14th place in the overall standings and has only scored twelve points this season.
