On Tuesday evening, the Swedish attacking star published a text on his Instagram account, where he directed criticism at his club Newcastle.

"When promises are broken, trust disappears, the relationship cannot continue”, he wrote, among other things.

Just a few hours later, Newcastle's response came. The club denies that Isak was promised a transfer.

Training on his own

”We are disappointed to have been made aware of a post on social media by Alexander Isak”, Newcastle begins its statement on its website, and then claims that no one in the club has given Isak promises of a move.

Alexander Isak has during the preseason refused to train and is said to want to leave the club to play for the reigning champion team Liverpool. That a transfer would be near is now toned down by Newcastle.

”We have been clear that the conditions for a sale this summer have not been met. We do not see that these conditions will be met”.

Isak was not present at Newcastle's training camp in Asia earlier in the summer. He has been training on his own during the preseason and also traveled to Spain for individual training with his old club Real Sociedad. When Newcastle met Aston Villa in the Premier League premiere on Saturday, the 25-year-old was not in the squad.

Before Tuesday evening's post on social media, Isak himself had not commented on the situation.

”I have been silent for a long time while others have talked. The silence has allowed people to put forward their versions of what has happened, even if it does not reflect what has really been said and agreed upon behind closed doors", the attacker wrote on Instagram.

Meets Liverpool

Newcastle concludes its response on the website by welcoming Isak back.

"This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to maintain our family feel. Alex is still part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to reunite with his teammates”.

Isak became in 2022 the most expensive Swede of all time when Newcastle bought the attacking star from Real Sociedad for nearly 800 million kronor. The contract runs until the summer of 2028.

On Monday, Newcastle will host Liverpool at home at St James' Park in Premier League football. The transfer window closes on September 1.
