Linköping FC Makes Historic Investment in Men's Team Amid Crisis

Linköping is in the process of falling out of the women's top division. But in the midst of the crisis, the club is making a new investment – and has now pushed through a historic investment in a men's team. We will take LFC back to its former glory days, says club manager Erik Nordqvist to Corren.

With only one win in 14 rounds, good advice is expensive for Linköping's women's football team. But despite the looming risk of being relegated from the women's top division, the association looks positively to the future.

At an extraordinary annual meeting on Monday, they voted to become a so-called "double club" from next season, which also invests in boys' and men's teams.

"We want to build something sustainable for the future, where both girls and boys, women and men can develop and represent Linköping FC," says club manager Erik Nordqvist to the club's website.

They have begun preparations to start an elite preparatory boys' activity. It will eventually form the basis for a senior team.

And the investment is not affected if the women's team is relegated to the first division, says Erik Nordqvist to Corren.

We will work our way up and take LFC back to its former glory. If it happens that we get relegated, we will take it from there, says Nordqvist.

The goal is to eventually have a men's team that can compete for a place in the first or top division. Peter Myrgård, who together with others, including former hockey star Mattias Weinhandl, is the initiator of the investment, would most like to take over an already existing men's team.

The best would be if there was an association in the third or fourth division that feels "great, how good it would be for our association", says Myrgård.
