The UN protested on Tuesday against the latest evacuation order issued by Israel in Gaza. Israel expanded its evacuation warning to cover most of Gaza City on Monday, in connection with intense fighting in the city. The Israeli army IDF reports that a dozen Hamas fighters were killed in "close combat" in the latest offensive in Gaza's largest city.
The UN Office for Human Rights says that civilians who were told to move west from central Gaza City on Monday ended up in the middle of new fighting when IDF "intensified its attacks south and west of Gaza City, and targeted the areas where people were told to move to".
The UN Office for Human Rights condemns in a statement the new evacuation orders to civilians, "many of whom have been forcibly displaced multiple times, and evacuated to areas where IDF's military operations are ongoing, and where civilians continue to be killed and injured".
Israel continued on Tuesday with its large-scale offensive in Gaza City, which according to the UN has once again displaced tens of thousands of Palestinians. Ground troops, tanks, and fighter jets fought in the city, while negotiations are underway in Qatar to free the Israeli hostages held by Hamas and bring an end to the war, which is now in its tenth month.
