The American president's wife has recently become more visible in international politics.
At Donald Trump's meeting with Russia's president in Alaska about Ukraine, he had with him a letter from Melania Trump to Vladimir Putin. She urged Putin to think about the future of children, although without specifying which children she was referring to.
”Must unite us”
Melania Trump is now being urged in a letter from Turkey's president's wife to "expand her commitment" to also apply to Palestinians. The letter was published on Saturday by Turkey's presidential office, reports BBC. Emine Erdogan describes how Gaza has become a "cemetery for children” and turns to Melania Trump with the urging that "we must unite our voices and our forces against this injustice".
In the letter, Emine Erdogan also asks the US First Lady to directly appeal to Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to "put a stop to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza”.
Several letters
Melania Trump's letter to Russia's president prompted Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska to write a thank-you letter, which was handed over to Donald Trump during Volodymyr Zelenskyj's recent visit to the White House.
Donald Trump has previously hinted that Melania has had an influence on his view of Russia's warfare in Ukraine. Among other things, she has pointed to the latest Russian attacks when he said that he had had "great" conversations with Vladimir Putin.
