The evacuees will be moved to schools and public buildings that have been converted into temporary evacuation centers. The airlines Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet announce that flights are cancelled.
"The situation is extremely dangerous" states the authority for agriculture and environment in a statement.
Typhoon Kajiki is moving slowly past China's southeastern coast with wind speeds of up to 46 meters per second, according to the American typhoon warning center.
The wind strength is expected to increase further, at the same time as large amounts of rain move in over several Vietnamese regions on Monday and Tuesday, according to China's meteorological institute.
This is the fifth tropical storm to hit Vietnam this year. So far in 2025, over 100 people have been killed or are missing due to natural disasters, according to the country's agricultural authorities.
