Over 35 jihadists have been killed in air strikes near the border with Cameroon in northeastern Nigeria, the Nigerian air force announces.
The air raids are important support to ground troops in the area and contribute to "disrupting the terrorists' logistics and movement corridors through the northwestern border regions", the air force writes in a statement.
In Nigeria's northeastern corner, which borders Cameroon, Chad and Niger, the Islamic terrorist movement Boko Haram and the rival extremist group Iswap are raging. Both groups have recently intensified their attacks on the military.
During 16 years of rebellion, over 40,000 civilians have been killed and two million forced to flee their homes, according to the UN.
