The American defense department Pentagon has quietly stopped Ukraine from attacking targets in Russia, reports Wall Street Journal and refers to American officials.

The decision comes at the same time as President Donald Trump has had meetings with both Russia's President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj to get an end to the war.

It is the use of American-made long-range robots as well as similar weapons that contain American-made components or rely on American intelligence that the US has put a veto on at least one occasion.

This has in practice meant that Ukraine has had to rely on drones in its offensive against Russia.

According to the regulations, it is the Minister of Defence Pete Hegseth who decides whether Ukraine is allowed to use the robots.

The White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt says in a statement that the minister works closely with President Trump.

"President Trump has been clear that the war in Ukraine must come to an end. No change in military position has been made", she says.

The decision to stop Ukrainian attacks is a complete reversal from former President Joe Biden's decision to allow Ukraine to use the robots to hit targets within Russia.
