The sermon where Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde spoke directly to Donald Trump has gone viral. She urged him, among other things, to show mercy towards homosexuals and immigrants.
Trump writes on his platform Truth Social that the bishop is a tough Trump-hater from the radical left who brought her church into the world of politics "in a very unpleasant way".
"She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants who have entered our country and killed people", the president writes.
Mariann Edgar Budde says in a CNN interview that she wanted to convey her message in a friendly way directly to the president, that she wanted to remind him that those who are currently afraid in the USA are fellow human beings who have been described in a very harsh way during the election campaign.
I wanted to say that there is room for mercy. There is room for a broader compassion. We do not need to portray with a broad brush in the sharpest language some of the most vulnerable people in our society, who are actually our neighbors, our friends, our children, our friends' children, and so on.
