It was after a match between Hong Kong and Turkmenistan on Sunday that everything escalated badly.
Several players on Hong Kong's team were knocked to the ice by their opponents after winning the match against Turkmenistan 5–1, according to Chinese state media.
Videos on social media show that at least three Turkmen players dealt blows to Hong Kong's players while referees tried to intervene. Among other things, it can be seen how a player receives an unexpected blow to the face and how their helmet flies off.
"I'm very shocked and devastated. I strongly condemn this act of violence," says Kenneth Fok, head of Hong Kong's Olympic Committee.
Three players from Hong Kong were injured, one of whom needed stitches on their hand, but none are seriously injured. Four players from Turkmenistan have now been banned and kicked out of the Games.
"The Sports Federation and the Olympic Committee in Hong Kong, China strongly condemn the intentional attack that caused injuries to Hong Kong athletes by Turkmen athletes," the federation writes in a statement.
