The Liberals want to inspire a love of reading in young people and give a "summer vacation book" to all elementary school students.
The book will be distributed at the end of the school year as a summer assignment.
This is perhaps even more important for young people with a weak language foundation at home, says The Liberals' party leader Johan Pehrson.
The summer is otherwise a period where young people with a weak connection to the Swedish language fall behind in their development, he continues.
Several schools are already working with summer vacation books, but the model needs to be scaled up, according to L.
The selection of books will be based on the reading lists currently being developed by the National Agency for Education with "high-quality literature for all ages." The reading lists will be ready by 2025 and serve as support for preschool teachers and teachers when choosing literature for their teaching.
The proposal is estimated to cost 300 million kronor per year. This will be a matter for the Tidö parties to negotiate in the fall budget.
We are trying to convince our government colleagues of this. I think I notice an increased understanding among the Tidö parties of the importance of reading more, says Pehrson.
