I have understood it so that we have contacted and had conversations about a pardon, says Combs' lawyer Nicole Westmoreland to CNN.
Trump has however already indicated that he would dismiss a pardon.
I got along well with him, but when I stood up in the election he was very hostile, said Trump in an interview with Newsmax on Saturday night.
When asked if it means that he does not intend to pardon Combs, Trump replied:
That I would probably say, yes.
Combs, 55, was accused and prosecuted for having forced girlfriends to have sex with male escorts while he watched and filmed, in what has been described in court as "freak-offs" – parties with drugs and sexual elements.
He was acquitted in July of the more serious charges of sex trade and extortion, but was convicted of two cases of pimping-related crimes. They can give a maximum of ten years in prison each, but his lawyers have emphasized in their submissions to the court that the sentence can be as short as 21 months.
Combs has been imprisoned since September last year and his sentence will be announced on October 3.
