Seven people have been killed by Israeli military in Jenin on the West Bank, according to Palestinian authorities. At least 14 Palestinians are reported to have been killed in Israeli military operations on the West Bank during the week.
The Israeli forces surrounded a building where "terrorists had barricaded themselves" and a firefight broke out, according to a statement from the Israeli army. Several "armed terrorists" were killed, it continues.
According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, the sequence of events began with military vehicles surrounding a house in a refugee camp in Jenin, and via loudspeakers, a resident was called upon to surrender.
The Islamic, terror-classified organization Hamas states in a statement that five of the "martyrs" were members of Hamas. One is said to have been a commander.
Violence on the West Bank has increased since the Gaza War began on October 7 last year.
