The Iran-backed Huthi movement attacked an American cargo ship in the Gulf of Aden in the Red Sea on Tuesday. The ship's captain reported an explosion near the ship off the coast of Yemen, according to information from the British trade organization, UKMTO.
The ship and its crew are said to have escaped without damage. The Huthi militia, which controls large parts of Yemen, has attacked more than 70 ships along the important trade route in the Red Sea in recent months.
According to the movement, the purpose of the attacks on international shipping is to support the Palestinians. Many of the attacked ships, however, have no connection to Israel or the war in Gaza.
