Darj got a blow to the knee in Thursday's national team match against Iceland. Immediately after the match, national team captain Michael Apelgren chose to call in veteran Andreas "Stycket" Nilsson as a replacement, regardless of what the medical examination of Darj would show.
It turned out as feared, the medical examination shows that it is an injury to a ligament in the knee. Darj is expected to be out of play for four to six weeks.
"It feels, of course, extremely disappointing. The national team is always a bonus that you look forward to being part of. Now, I'll have to focus on rehab instead", says Darj to the national team's website.
Darj was also plagued by injuries last year and missed large parts of the Olympic Games.
Nilsson, with 154 A-national team matches and 350 goals, joins Friday evening's training.
Darj is the second center player in the national team to miss the World Championship. In December, Oscar Bergendahl injured his foot. He has been replaced by Olle Forsell Schefvert.
Sweden plays its premiere match in Oslo on January 16 against Japan.
