Haak, today 26 years, grew up in Ängelholm. A French dad made the family spend a lot of time in France during her childhood. In 2007, when Isabelle was eight years, came the message: dad had stomach cancer.

Dad had been in pain in the stomach for a while, says Haak in the radio program.

Two years later, dad died.

The last year of his life, dad was treated at a hospital in France, one of our last memories was when we picked chestnuts together. He also took us to Disneyland in Paris, we did not know it would be his last summer.

Eight years after dad's passing, 2016, Isabelle Haak signed with the French club Béziers Volley – her first professional contract. The move felt obvious and was emotional.

I felt that I came closer to dad, she says and continues:

But god how I wished, if only for a match, that he could have been there and got to see me play on the court in France, says Haak.

Correction: In an earlier version of the article, it was stated that Haak grew up in Ljungby. Correct is Ängelholm.
