After two years of absence, Venus Williams is back on the Grand Slam scene.

On Wednesday, it was announced that the seven-time singles champion had received a wild card to the US Open.

When the singles tournament starts in New York on August 24, she will be the oldest singles player in the tournament since Renee Richards in 1981 – she was then 47 years old.

Williams, who also got a place in mixed doubles, last played a Grand Slam in the US Open 2023.

The comeback began as early as July at the DC Open in Washington after a 16-month break.

I'm just here for now and who knows, maybe there will be more. I'm still the same player. I hit hard, that's my signature, said Williams then.

Last year, she underwent an operation to remove muscle knots in the uterus.

Williams has a total of seven Grand Slam titles in singles, 14 in women's doubles together with her sister Serena and two titles in mixed doubles.
