Israel's military (IDF) claims to have attacked "terrorists" who used a school in the Nuseirat area in central Gaza as a "shield".

A source at Al-Awda hospital in Nuseirat tells AFP that they have received several injured people after an attack on a school run by the UN's Palestine agency Unrwa.

IDF further states in its statement that terrorist-stamped Hamas and Islamic Jihad systematically exploit civilians as human shields.

Last Saturday, at least 16 people were killed and more were injured in the same area when a school building where displaced Palestinians had sought refuge was attacked by IDF, according to Hamas-controlled authorities.

About a month ago, on June 6, 40 people were killed in an Israeli attack on a school in the same area, according to Hamas figures. Refugees also lived there. The attack was condemned by, among others, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and the EU and USA have demanded transparent and independent investigations. According to Israel, nine terrorists were killed in that attack.
