The rain that came over the weekend has affected the Seine's water quality, and tests have so far shown that the quality is not good enough to allow athletes to swim in the river.
The men's triathlon, which was to be held on Tuesday, had to be postponed a day due to the poor water quality.
But early on Wednesday morning, the Olympic Games organizer announced that the latest tests showed that the water was clean enough for the competitions to take place. The women's race can therefore start at 08:00 as planned, and the men's race afterwards at 10:45.
Organizing competitions in the river has been a prestige issue for the Olympic Games organizer, which has invested large sums and resources to make the water suitable. The water quality, however, has not been good enough on several days, which has also led to training sessions being cancelled. French authorities are estimated to have invested the equivalent of 16.4 billion kronor, 1.4 billion euro, over the past decade to clean up the Seine.
