Marta, 39, scored two goals and ensured that Brazil won the Copa América for the fifth time in a row and ninth in total.

Brazil defeated Colombia in the final on penalties with 5–4.

Football veteran Marta, chosen as the world's best player six times, was substituted in in the 82nd minute and equalized to 3–3 in added time. In extra time, she made it 4–3, but Colombia equalized.

In the penalty shootout, Marta missed her penalty but the Brazilian goalkeeper Lorena saved two penalties and made sure that Marta could still lift the trophy for Copa América, the South American championships, for the fourth time – it was 22 years since she was involved and took the first title.

Marta retired from the national team after the final loss to the USA in the Olympic Games last year, but made a comeback in May. Maybe the former Umeå, Tyresö, and Rosengård player wants to crown her career in a seventh World Championship, which will be played in Brazil in 2027. She has now scored 122 goals in 206 international matches.

Marta has been playing in Orlando in the American league since 2017.
