The patients in the thoracic surgery department were given the wrong medication during open-heart surgery. When the operations were completed, their hearts did not start, and they instead received continued care with a heart-lung machine in the intensive care unit and are now being evaluated for heart transplantation.

"The hospital takes the incident very seriously and regrets what has happened," the hospital wrote in a press release .

An investigation is underway and the incident will be reported under Lex Maria. The procedures for how medicine is received and unpacked have already been tightened.
