The Golden Puck, which is awarded to "Sweden's best hockey player", has been presented by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association and Expressen since 1956.
The past season ended with William Nylander finishing second in the NHL's scoring league with 45 goals made. Which the Golden Puck jury of course has included in the motivation for the prize.
"With his individual brilliance and unparalleled sense of the game, William Nylander took himself to a second place in the NHL's scoring league with his 45 goals – a feat only two other Swedes have managed before", the jury writes.
Nylander's part in Tre Kronor's World Championship bronze on home ground is also mentioned, as well as his general qualities on the ice.
"Nylander's flair, technique, calm and ability to do things at high speed make him not just a special player, these are qualities that the season 2024/2025 crowns him as Sweden's best hockey player".
In a winner interview with Expressen Nylander comments on his fresh award:
It's a very special feeling. It's maybe a goal you've always had in the back of your mind, to try to be Sweden's best player. I appreciate that you chose me for this because we have so many good Swedish hockey players.
