Victor Johansson was the only one from the Swedish team who made it to the final – where he came fourth on 400 meters freestyle and fifth on double the distance.
I want to highlight Victor. He comes in as 19th-ranked. I'm super happy that he gets to be a part of it, says national team captain Martina Aronsson.
"Had higher goals"
On Sunday morning, the Swedish medley team failed to make it to the final and Sweden finished with a time of 4.00.32, resulting in an eleventh place. With that, it was also finished swimming for the Swedes.
I suffer with the swimmers who do not get to use their full potential. We had four finals as a set goal and we did not achieve that. We did not achieve personal bests or records either. We had higher goals than what was delivered, says Aronsson.
The national team captain feels responsible for the weak Swedish performances.
I feel responsible, of course I do. In the national team, no swimmers are created, we manage and we have not managed to do that particularly well this time simply.
"Has not been enough"
She does not want to blame the preparations.
We have had great preparations for the championship. It's more about what has been done earlier in the season not having been enough.
An evaluation and analysis of what did not work will now begin.
Coaches and swimmers will analyze. There, it will come out what needs to be changed. We always have development dialogues. Even if it goes very well during a championship, you evaluate. You go through the season simply and of course the training volume. It will absolutely be done, concludes Aronsson.
Sweden has only been without medals twice before in the World Championship in long course: 1975 in Cali, Colombia, and 1986 in Madrid, Spain.
