The company applied for bankruptcy on July 31 and the operations have ceased with immediate effect, reports several media outlets.

"We regret the impact this may have on our customers, partners and employees," the company writes on its website.

The company's owner Ercan Secilmis tells Sydsvenskan that between 1,200 and 1,300 people are on trips sold through the company's operations in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.

According to Kammarkollegiet, Mixx Travel has provided guarantees for 28.4 million kronor, which is estimated to be sufficient for the stranded passengers' transportation home and other possible compensation claims, writes Travel News.

On the website, Mexx Travel writes that customers should contact Kammarkollegiet in Sweden or the Consumer and Competition Authority (KKV) in Finland for further information regarding the travel guarantee and possible compensation claims.
