Philadelphia has previously chosen to grease lamp posts that they suspect fans of the city's NFL team Eagles will want to climb up in after a potential victory.
This may become relevant again ahead of the Super Bowl, the season's highlight in American football, which takes place in New Orleans on Sunday night. Not least considering the tragic accident at the end of January when a college student died after falling from a lamp post during the celebration of Philadelphia Eagles' advancement to the Super Bowl.
We do not want to end up in a situation where a tragedy occurs in the middle of the celebration, says Philadelphia's Mayor Cherelle Parker.
More police on the streets
Both in New Orleans, Philadelphia, and Kansas City – whose team Chiefs are facing opposition in the Super Bowl – are preparing for a potential celebration.
In New Orleans, they also have the suspected terrorist attack on New Year's Eve fresh in mind. Then, 14 people were killed when a person drove a car through the crowds on famous Bourbon Street. The city has now chosen to close off several streets in connection with the Super Bowl.
Deadly shooting last year
Kansas City experienced its own tragedy last year. Then, one person was killed and over 20 injured in a shooting during the victory parade after Kansas City took its second consecutive Super Bowl title. Around one million people participated in the parade, but several fans who news agency AP spoke with are hesitant to do the same this year.
This despite 200 extra police officers being ready if Chiefs win again.
Many will probably take an extra moment to think about whether they should participate in such an event, says a Kansas City Chiefs supporter.
