Just like in Sweden, many Danish workplaces will be treating their employees to a Christmas dinner. But some Danes who wish to have snaps with their Christmas lunch may be left without.

In a survey by the trade union Ledarna, every third manager responds that beer and wine will be served during the sittings, but not strong spirits.

In a similar survey from last year, only one quarter responded that snaps were banned. According to Lars Andersen, responsible for work environment policy at Ledarna, the development is a result of the changed view on alcohol in relation to the workplace.

In most operations, there are rules or a policy for alcohol. Some have decided on a ban. In other places, it has only been removed during working hours, he says.

Not serving strong alcohol, according to Andersen, sends an inclusive signal.

A Christmas party should strengthen the relationships between employees and between managers and employees. Therefore, it is important that the arrangement is perceived as pleasant for everyone.
