The USA's former vice president Kamala Harris will not stand in California's governor election next year. She announces this after a long time of speculation about her political future.
I love this state, its people, and promises of the future. It is my home. But after long consideration, I have decided not to stand, she said on Wednesday.
According to American media, Harris is abstaining from the election to be able to focus on the presidential election in 2028.
Kamala Harris was born and raised in California and was appointed in 2011 to the state's highest legal office (attorney general), a post she held until she was elected to the USA's senate in 2016. She was President Joe Biden's vice president from 2021 until January this year.
