Iran's president Masoud Pezeshkian warns that the dams that supply the capital Tehran with water can be depleted within a few months if water consumption does not decrease.

If we in Tehran cannot handle the situation, if people do not cooperate with us and we do not succeed in controlling consumption, there will not be any water left behind our dams, he says during a visit to the city of Zanjan in the southwestern parts of the country.

Already in October, the reservoirs may be empty, according to the president.

According to Tehran's provincial water supply company, the water level in the reservoirs that supply the city has fallen to "the lowest in a century".
