In a speech on Thursday, President Aoun says the country demands that "the authority of the Lebanese state be expanded over the entire country and that weapons from all armed groups, including Hizbollah, be removed."
Already in April, Aoun said he hoped Hizbollah would be disarmed this year after the Iran-backed militia was severely weakened as a result of Israeli attacks.
Hizbollah has been a political party in Lebanon since 1982 and functions as "a state within a state", with a military power that until recently was at least as large as the country's army.
The Iran-backed movement has been completely terrorist-stamped by several countries, while others - including the EU - have only terrorist-stamped its armed branch.
