Just 14 seconds after launch outside Bowen, Queensland, Eris crashed.

It was the third attempt to launch the rocket, but previous attempts have been cancelled. That the launch did not succeed entirely was however received with calm by Adam Gilmour, CEO of the company behind the rocket, Gilmour Space Technologies.

”Of course I had wanted to see a longer journey but I am glad about this”, he writes on social media. Before the launch, he said that it is very unusual for similar attempts to succeed at the first attempt and that it would be a success if the rocket just lifted off.

The long-term plan is that an Eris rocket will launch satellites into orbit around the earth.

The attempt to get Eris into space was the first in over 50 years in Australia.
