According to local authorities, there are around 15 ongoing fires in Chile at present. Curfews and a state of emergency have been declared in two regions, Nuble and Maule.
Boric said at a press conference on Saturday that he has reason to believe that a large part of the fires in the Araucanía area, south of the capital Santiago, are arson.
The fires have been exacerbated by the high temperatures of around 40 degrees prevailing in the country.
More than 60 arrests have been made in connection with the forest fires in Araucanía, according to local authorities.
Last year, more than 100 people died and thousands of homes were destroyed in forest fires in Valparaíso in Chile.
