Ukraine's defense fight is in a decisive phase, says Gahr Støre side by side with Zelenskyj during a press conference.
In parallel with talks and ceasefire and peace, the war in Ukraine is in full swing. In that situation, it is important to mark continued strong support for Ukraine – politically, militarily and economically.
As proof of Norway's continued support, the Prime Minister promises 85 new billion to Ukraine for the year 2026, the same amount that Norway contributed in 2025. The majority of the money will go to military support.
Ukraine's freedom, independence and democracy are also important for Norwegian and European security, notes Gahr Støre:
This is a heavy contribution to our common future.
Gahr Støre received an invitation to Kyiv in a phone call with Zelenskyj last week, writes NTB. It is the fourth time he visits Ukraine since Russia's major invasion in 2022. At the train station in Kyiv, he was met, according to NTB, with cheers, as the visit coincides with his 65th birthday.
I think it's an excellent way to celebrate the day - to come to you and go deeply into the discussions about how we can support Ukraine to a lasting peace, says the Prime Minister during the press conference with Zelenskyj.
We know each other well now, and I think you know that you can trust Norway, he continues.
On Sunday, Norway announced that they will donate seven billion Norwegian kronor to Ukrainian air defense. Together with Germany, the country will pay for two air defense systems of the Patriot type. Norway, Finland and the Baltic countries are simultaneously building up a Ukrainian brigade that Norway is financing.
