Zelensky: Russian soldiers have fallen in Kursk

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj claims that 6,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded during the ground offensive in Kursk. Ukraine also asserts that the city of New York (or Nju-Jork), located north of the metropolis Donetsk in the east, has been retaken.

President Zelenskyj commented on the ongoing Ukrainian ground offensive on Russian territory during Friday's meeting at the US airbase Ramstein in Germany.

The ground offensive in the Kursk region has been going on for a month, but there are no independent reports on the number of killed or wounded in the battles.

60,000 soldiers

Earlier, Zelenskyj stated that Ukrainian military had relocated 60,000 soldiers to the ongoing ground offensive on Russian territory.

During the meeting in Ramstein, where representatives from about 50 countries participated in discussions on how to support Ukraine militarily, Zelenskyj said that the offensive in Russia was a way to prevent Russian attacks on the area around Sumy in northern Ukraine.

However, the Ukrainian offensive has not changed the balance of power at Pokrovsk in Ukraine, as Russia has not relocated forces from the ongoing offensive.

Ukraine said on Friday that it had retaken parts of the city of New York.

The Ukrainian successes in New York are said to be Kiev's first on the heavily contested eastern front in months. They are described in a social media post by the notorious Azov Brigade.

Annexed in 2022

Russia's military claimed to have taken control of the small town on August 20 this year. New York, which had around 10,000 inhabitants before the larger outbreak of war, is located in the Donetsk region, which Russia claimed to have annexed in the fall of 2022.

The city got its attention-grabbing name when it was founded in the late 19th century, but it is not certain exactly why that name was chosen.
