Umeå FC takes a big step towards promotion to Superettan – without having to play. The Swedish Football Association (SvFF) awards the team a 3–0 victory in the match against AFC Eskilstuna after the opponents used a player who was actually suspended.
For Umeå, it's three heavy points that are cashed in. When the teams met on September 15, AFC won 3–1, and the battle at the top of the table in Ettan Norra is tight.
Thanks to Umeå being awarded the victory, they secure their position as table leaders and are now five points ahead of Nordic United in second place. Third-place Stockholm Internazionale is another two points behind with seven rounds remaining.
AFC Eskilstuna, meanwhile, falls to a relegation spot.
The decision can be appealed until October 11.
