Andersson on the lottery scandal: "Will clean house"

Party leader Magdalena Andersson (S) comments for the first time on the harsh criticism against the party's lottery sales. The party has acted when it became aware of the sales methods, she says. The new board has been given a clear task, which is to clean house.

Today's News has reported that Kombispel, a subsidiary of A-lotterierna, which in turn is owned by the Social Democrats, is exploiting elderly people through aggressive lottery sales over the phone.

I'm deeply disappointed and honestly, I'm furious, says the S-leader to TT.

This is in direct conflict with what social democracy is and the values we build on, she says about the aggressive telephone sales that have been highlighted.

Should the party leadership have intervened earlier?

We became aware of this in connection with DN's investigation and then we acted. There have been problems before and then you have also terminated collaborations with companies that are deemed to have too aggressive sales methods, says Andersson.

Urged the Board

What do you want to say to the elderly who have been subjected to these sales methods?

If you feel that it has been aggressive and that you have been mistreated, then you should contact the company (Kombispel), then you will be able to have a dialogue, you can also report to the Consumer Agency, says Andersson.

The party has urged the board of Kombispel to resign. A new board will be elected at an extraordinary meeting.

They have been given a clear assignment, it is to clean house and ensure that the company's operations are permeated by the Social Democrats' values.

"Of course not good"

In the old board, among others, the party's vice group leader in the Riksdag and the party's treasurer sit.

Should they leave their posts in the party?

The board has collective responsibility and therefore we have urged the entire board to resign. It has obviously not been sufficient control over this operation. But it does not mean that you cannot perform other tasks because you have failed in this, says Andersson.

How has the party been damaged by this?

That working methods from this company we have hired, which contradict our values, are of course not good. There are many social problems that we would like to focus on and be able to discuss and debate.

She further says that those who feel mistreated can contact Kombispel and the Consumer Agency.

My concern is not primarily in what extent it affects the Social Democrats. I think of the elderly who answered the phone and had an unpleasant experience.
