Two million voters cast their ballots in advance in this year's EU election, which corresponds to 47 per cent of the total number of votes. This is a clear increase compared to the EU election in 2019, when 1.6 million voted in advance, according to the Election Authority.
The day after National Day, 7 June, was the most popular day to cast advance votes across the country. On that day, approximately a quarter of a million voters went to the polling station.
Nordstan in Gothenburg was the polling station that received the most advance votes in this year's EU election, approximately 26,000.
"We think it's positive that more and more voters are voting early. We have just conducted an EU election in Sweden where the risk of queues is not so great. Now we're looking ahead to the national elections in 2026, and then it's important that voting is spread out throughout the voting period to reduce the risk of long queues," says Anna Nyqvist, head of the Election Authority, in a press release.
