The cyber threat to Sweden is described as comprehensive and complex – but the national cyber security center (NCSC) has so far kept a low profile.
It was established as early as 2020 but the responsibility was for a long time divided between different authorities, including FRA, Säpo and MSB. Last year, however, FRA formally took over the responsibility.
John Billow is now becoming the first head of NCSC appointed by the government. It has taken almost a year to fill the position.
He comes from a position as head of the department for cyber security and certification at the Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) and is described as having broad experience of working with cyber and security issues, both from authorities and internationally.
Carl-Oskar Bohlin states that FRA is Sweden's most secret authority, but adds that the cyber security center and its new head, on the other hand, will need to be visible to some extent.
It is absolutely necessary based on other countries' models that have succeeded in a successful way, says Bohlin and points to the British cyber security center.
John Billow takes office on September 1.
I think it's important to be out and talk about these issues. Cyber security can be perceived as diffuse and difficult to grasp. Everything we can do to simplify and improve that work I am ready to do, says Billow.
