The District Court has, according to the appeal to the Svea Court of Appeal, made "an incorrect assessment regarding Osama Krayem's intent", and he is requesting a complete acquittal.

"Under all circumstances, Osama Krayem requests that the Court of Appeal impose a milder sentence", it says further in the appeal from lawyer Petra Eklund.

It was at the end of July that Krayem was convicted of serious war crimes and terrorist offenses for the murder of pilot Muath al-Kasasbeh, who was taken captive by IS at the end of 2014 and then burned to death. The murder was filmed and spread in a notorious propaganda film from the terrorist group.

Krayem has admitted that he was present when Muath al-Kasasbeh was burned to death, but denies that he knew what was going to happen and means that he therefore did not have intent. The District Court made a different assessment, among other things based on what was previously known about IS and the elite group he joined, what he wrote on Facebook and his other actions afterwards.

The 32-year-old from Malmö is already serving a prison sentence for involvement in terrorist attacks in Paris in 2015 and Brussels in 2016. When the legal process in Sweden is completed, Osama Krayem, who was temporarily handed over to Sweden in March, will be returned to France.
