The two men, both residents of Västra Götaland County, deny any wrongdoing.
Both have previously been convicted of crimes. One suspect was convicted last year of assault after he and two other young men kicked and punched a man who was lying on the ground. The other suspect has been convicted of driving without a license.
During the night of Sunday, a man in his 50s was assaulted outside a restaurant in central Karlstad. Two men were initially arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault in connection with the man, who later died from his injuries.
Charges must be filed no later than September 30th.
