We also have more and more tariffs and trade barriers, it's clear that it affects the global economy and the Swedish economy very much. So I hope that none of the candidates - regardless of who wins - will go that way. It benefits no one, says Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson (M) who meets her EU colleagues at a meeting in Brussels on Tuesday.

She still hopes for continued good relations across the Atlantic.

We are very dependent on the USA. We are NATO members together with the USA. So we should continue to have good relations and also clearly influence whichever president comes - both through the EU and also bilaterally - to have fewer trade barriers and not more, says the Finance Minister.

Svantesson does not want to go into whether she is worried.

Something I've learned from American politics in recent years is that we'll see what happens, she says.
