Trump writes that the statistician, Erika McEntarfer, got her job during the former President Joe Biden's time and that he has ordered his staff to dismiss her immediately.

"She will be replaced with someone much more competent and qualified", Trump writes.

Accuses of falsification

He also accuses McEntarfer of having produced false employment figures before the presidential election last year to strengthen Kamala Harris' chances of winning the election.

According to the labor market department's report, 73,000 new jobs were created outside the agricultural sector in the USA in July. Analysts had on average expected 104,000 new jobs, according to a compilation of forecasts made by the news agency Bloomberg.

In addition, the June and May figures are revised sharply downwards. According to the new figures, only 14,000 new jobs were created in June, compared to the previously estimated 147,000. And the figure for May was reduced to 19,000 from the previous 125,000.

"Tariffs affect"

With the latest downward revisions, an average of only 35,000 new jobs have been created outside the agricultural sector per month during the last three-month period. This is the weakest development since the pandemic in 2020, notes Bloomberg.

"The tariffs affect the USA more than the rest of the world", writes Allianz's investment manager Ludovic Subran to Bloomberg.

Unemployment in the USA rose to 4.2 from the previous 4.1 percent. SEB's senior economist Robert Bergqvist writes on the platform X that today's employment figures confirm that the USA's labor market is slowing down and that it speaks for an interest rate cut in September.

"Fed easing in September lives on. Should make Trump happy but Powell stressed”, he writes.

Corrected: In an earlier version, the wrong month was stated for the latest figures.
