The over 300 turbines will be placed east of the Scottish coast, in a part of the North Sea that is located approximately opposite the Danish-German border. The facility is called Berwick Bank, and the energy company SSE Renewables states that the electricity from there will be enough for six million households' annual needs.

The decision to grant permission for Berwick Bank is a major step in Scotland's progress towards achieving net zero (emissions) and tackling the climate crisis, as well as supporting the country's energy security, says Kate Forbes, Deputy First Minister of Scotland's self-government.

Also, Britain's Energy Minister Ed Miliband welcomes the news, and describes it as an important part of making the country "a superpower in clean energy" by 2030.

In response to widespread concern that bird life will be affected, SSE Renewables must however develop a plan for how to protect bird life, writes ITV.
