There is a shortage of cloudberry in the north after this year's cold early summer and extreme heat in July. Now consumers can expect record-high prices for the berries, reports SVT Västerbotten.

Besides the weather's impact, only 89 berry pickers were granted permission to come to Sweden ahead of this year's season, compared to over 5,000 berry pickers two years ago. The combination has created a great demand for cloudberry on the Swedish market and this year the berries are expected to be expensive.

Prices may even reach record levels, according to berry buyer Krystyna Felczak.

There are few berries and few pickers. Expect prices up to 300 kronor per kilo in stores, she says to SVT.

She tells that she daily receives several calls from buyers, but must deny them.

We do not have the quantities they need.
