Sarah Sjöström will swim two individual distances at the OS in Paris. Both 50 meters freestyle and 100 meters freestyle. The 30-year-old swimming star announces this at a press conference in Eskilstuna.
The plan can always change, but as long as I'm on the start list, I'll go for it, she says.
Initially, the plan was for Sjöström to focus solely on 50 meters freestyle at these games. But when the entry lists became official, the star was listed for both 50 and 100 meters freestyle.
One of the reasons the world star chooses to swim both distances is that the schedule is set up so that after a potential final on 100 meters freestyle, she gets two days off before it's time for 50 meters.
It can be good to have something to do without it interfering with 50 meters freestyle. If it had only been one day in between, it wouldn't have been quite reasonable, but two days, I know I'll recover, says Sjöström.
In addition to the individual events, Sarah Sjöström expects to participate in both relay races, women's freestyle and medley.
