The man is also to pay over 28 million Norwegian kronor in compensation to the victims of the crime. Several of the children were under ten years old – some of them as young as six years, reports NRK.
The abuse took place via the now-defunct chat service Omegle. The man, who previously worked at a school, got the children to perform sexual acts on themselves and other children and recorded the material. He is also said to have threatened several of the children that he would publish the videos online if they did not do as he said.
The case is one of the most extensive in Norway's history regarding sexual abuse on the internet, according to NRK.
The chat service Omegle allowed users to talk to randomly selected people all over the world, through text or webcams. The forum was closed in 2023 after extensive allegations of sexual crimes against children.
Corrected: In an earlier version of the text, incorrect information about the nationality of the victims appeared.
